She has a hectic schedule juggling her X Factor acts – but Nicole Scherzinger took time out of her busy week to fly across the pond for a Prince tribute concert.
Nicole was among 17,000 fans who flocked to Xcel Energy Center in the town of St Paul, Minnesota, on Thursday to remember the late icon, who died in April from an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl.
Channelling her inner Prince in a silver sparkling tuxedo, with flared trousers and a hint of purple, Nicole belted out his 1982 hit Nasty Girl – which was first released by his protégé girl group Vanity 6.
Following her performance, Nicole made a quick dash back to the airport to make sure she’s back in the UK in time for Saturday’s live X Factor show.
Still in her stage costume, Nicole captured an Instagram snap of her at the airport: "Airport funky chic! Headed back to #London ! Was quick trip but was an honor to play along side Prince’s band tonight to celebrate him. I love you Prince. We miss you…"
Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan were the main event for the evening, teaming up to perform a string of duets for the delighted crowds of fans, including 1999 and I Feel For You.
Christina Aguilera was also due to take part but cancelled her appearance at the last minute due to "vocal illness".
"It is with a heavy heart that I cannot perform this evening and join the amazing talent onstage to pay tribute to the legend that was Prince," she said in a statement.
"He will remain in our hearts and inspire our music until the end of time."
A representative later said she had been told to withdraw from the line-up by doctors.
John Mayer, who was also due to take part, backed out citing a "change of schedule".
Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, previously said that she hoped the show would bring closure to his grieving fans.
